A key element to our firm’s success is the background, experience, and skills of our team members. Although our partners have a combined 17 years of hedge fund experience, we pride ourselves on our team’s strong roots in software engineering, statistics, and other technical and quantitative fields.

Bradley S. Banks
Co-Founder; Chief Executive Officer

Brad co-founded Athena Capital Research in June 2003. He is responsible for overall management and growth of the company, in addition to overseeing research, development, and risk management of investment strategies.

Brad previously was a Managing Director at Tower Research Capital, a highly successful early pioneer in automated electronic trading. He has 10 years of industry experience covering operations, personnel, and portfolio management, as well as development of quantitative trading strategies.

Prior to Tower, Brad attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he attained S.B. and M.Eng. degrees in Computer Science (1999). Brad’s deep passion for Artificial Intelligence, technology, and statistics is visibly demonstrated in his graduate thesis research, which focused on the extraction of patterns from large data sets through statistical and machine learning techniques.

Evan F. Wies
Partner; Chief Technology Officer

Evan joined Athena Capital Research as a partner in May 2004. Evan is lead architect of Athena’s trading platform and manages the development team and trading operations.

Prior to Athena, Evan gained considerable experience with software development and project management tasks as the Chief Technology Officer of Mindengine, a Brooklyn-based game development studio. In addition to his stint with Mindengine, Evan served as Research Engineer and the Internet Technology Manager of Immersion Corporation from 1997-2000. He has been issued four US patents in the field of haptics.

Evan attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he completed his M.Eng. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (1998). He also earned dual S.B. degrees at MIT: one in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (1996), and one in Brain and Cognitive Sciences (1997).
